Glass & Lead

Nathan and Michelle of Stonecroft Stained Glass, conserve and repair stained glass and leaded lights according to CVMA guidelines for private clients, heritage organisations and churches. They work in grade-listed buildings of historic importance and in ecclesiastical buildings. After a site visit a report is produced to assess the glazing and recommendations are made. They have extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of site work and glazing techniques and panels are removed and installed professionally and health and safety measures are met. Care is given in making mortar mixes to match original stonework.  They also offer an on-site cleaning service of stained glass in ecclesiastical buildings.

Stonecroft also work in the conservation and restoration of domestic leaded lights across Dorset and surrounding counties.

A variety of studio techniques are used in the conservation and repair of panels. This includes cleaning, dismantling, flattening panels, copper foiling, leading, gluing and the introduction of new painted inserts where it s appropriate. They look to retain original leads wherever possible. They specialise in glass painting and re-creating missing pieces in panels damaged due to vandalism or severe weathering. They use many decorative processes; traditional glass painting, enamelling, sandblasting, acid etching, silver staining and slumped glass. They take a holistic approach to architectural conservation working alongside craftspeople specialising in stonework, metalwork and wood to ensure that the integrity of a building is upheld.
